Chinese magnetic confinement fusion (MCF) development has made significant progress during the past decade. With successful operation of the EAST superconductingtokamak, joining ITER project, China is playing an important role in advanced steady-state operations towards the next step ITER. The Chinese FusionEngineering Testing Reactor (CFETR), complementing the ITER facility, is aiming to demonstrate fusion energy production up to 200 MW initially and to eventually reach DEMO relevant power level which is over 1 GW, to manifest a high duty factor of 0.3–0.5, and to pursue tritium self-sufficiency with tritium breeding ratio (TBR) >1 and net electricity generation by fusion. With the iterations between physical design and engineering design, the cross-section and dimension figure of CFETR is fixed with Major radius R=7.2mand minor radius a=2.2m. Subsequently the engineering design of CFETR includingthe magnet system, vacuum system, tritium breeding blanket, divertor, remotehandling and maintenance system have been carried out within CFETR national design team. Significant progress has been made but tremendous challenges are remained.

Comprehensive Research Facility for Fusion Technology(CRAFT)is one of the national big science and technologyfacility. Its objectives are explore and master fusion DEMO level key technologies,establish themethod and standard for manufacture the key material, components and system for CFETR, building key prototype systems and RAMI for CFETR,testing and validating themethod, technology and system for a successful construction of CFETR,and training next generation offusion scientist , engineer and mangers. CRAFT consists 20 different facilities which address most of key technology and system of CFETR. The construction of CRAFT started on Sept. 20, 2019 which will last for 5 year and 8 months withjoint founds from central and local governments

CRAFT is a largescale of R&D project for CFETR. Currently there are more than 300 scientists and engineers working together in the CRAFT project. CRAFT will use not only the technologies from ITER, but also those which need to be developed in future with significant challenges and efforts. Once completed, it will become a comprehensive research platform with DEMO relevant technology in the field of fusion. It also can provide a useful facility for spin-off of fusion technology to the industry application. Together with CFETR engineering design, EAST experiments, CRAFT will provide a solid technical base for successful construction of CFETR in future.
